Google Glass Stunt

On day one of the Google I/O, Google performed a demo of their new product Google Glass. Now when I think demo I imagine a pair of these specs that link to a projection screen and explain the functions to a room of tech-minded folks. Yeah… Google dreams a bit bigger darling.

They gave two extreme-sports-types a couple pairs of these amazing spectacles and threw them out of a plane where they landed on the roof of the Moscone hopped onto two BMX bikes then ran down the building. No, you read me correctly… ran DOWN the building. All the while the room full of tech savvy people were watching their journey via this amazing technology. These two then ran into the confrence building to confirm that yes, they had been thousands of feet in the air just moments before.

This is amazing to me! Look at what we can accomplish! The live feed had a couple brief hiccups, yet remained linked in what Google is calling, “A very challenging wireless environment.” Can you say understatement?

I am not here to give details on this device (i’ll post a link for that), I would just like to put it into the universe that I am impressed. Watching this demonstration brings forth so many questions about where our tech is going. What will we be able to accomplish within a decade? I just think that seeing products like this are wonderful motivation for the rest of us to work harder and dream bigger.

Hello World!…. i’m your wild girl? i’m your ch-ch-ch cherry bomb?

So as other bloggers know, when you sign up for this site the first post is already generated as Hello World! When I read that the song Cherry Bomb by The Runaways popped into my head. I am not, in fact, a wild… anything. I consider myself to be quite a dork or if you read the Call Yourself a Nerd blog and found your way over I suppose Nerd is more fitting. I am going to award these handy dandy imaginary brownie points for anyone who catches my little lyrical tangents as I go. The first one is a given.

Coachella festival happened recently and I was trying to catch up online (as I always do because I am too broke to wander in the desert for three days) and I came across the 2Pac 3D performance. Some people will roll their eyes when I say this, but I honestly do not care.

I had chills watching it. No they aren’t the multiplying kind, but the honest to goodness I am watching man walk on the moon type of chills. Can you imagine? In the near future we could be in an arena watching The Beatles perform. We all thought the king was dead, but for one night only here he is in all his 3D glory! Dr. Dre is already planning to “resurrect” more music icons like Jimi Hendrix and Marvin Gaye. I am so excited and these advances in hologram technology mean that my dream concerts are just around the corner. I am not sure about the rest of you, but i have these vivid music fantasies of watching Sublime in their prime, or The Doors! I have concert DVDs, but watching on a screen will never compare to standing in a crowd of hundreds of fans. For me, live shows are the ultimate way to experience music because you are there with hundreds of people who are ecstatic as they scream the lyrics to their favorite songs and share the experience through the music. There is no better feeling.

There is another side to my chills…

What if this amazing technological performance falls into the wrong hands? What if they have Elvis selling Nike? What if capitalism begins to belittle our heroes and further make them into posthumous spokespeople? A living artist has a fit when their creations are ill appropriated, but at least they can take legal action. Remember that Army commercial that jacked Icky-Thump? Jack White was pissed!

“No no no,” you might say, “their heirs or whoever holds the rights to likeness and music will do their best to protect their loved ones memory.”

To this I say, yes, let’s hope that is the case. Let us hope that Elvis does not turn in his blue suede shoes in for a pair of cross trainers anytime soon.

That was a mouth full for my first post, so yes… Hello world, my name is Natalia and I’m addicted to words.
